Is it covered
Coverage depends on your plan, the exact medicine and why it is prescribed. There is no single answer for everyone in Miami. This guide explains how to obtain a useful coverage answer; Miami Weight Loss cannot verify individual insurance benefits.
Public
Use the plan name and member information on your current card, then identify the proposed prescription with the provider. A question about all GLP-1 medicines is less useful than one about a particular brand, formulation and prescribed use. Wegovy medication information and Zepbound medication information explain two weight-management options. Do not assume coverage transfers between products simply because they are used for similar goals.
Ask whether that use is included, whether prior authorization is required and which pharmacies can fill a covered prescription. If the answer is conditional, request the written criteria and the steps needed for a decision. The weight loss insurance guide explains those terms. Record the date and any reference number so the provider can follow up on the same question.
Then ask about your share of the cost for the stated supply. Establish whether the figure is an estimate, whether a deductible applies and how long an approval lasts. Keep medication charges separate from visits, tests and memberships. Our medical weight loss cost guide helps organize those items. A useful answer says what is covered, under which conditions and what still needs confirmation.
Finding out
Ask specifically about GLP-1 medication for weight management, naming the product if you know it. General questions get general answers.
Whether it is required, and exactly what documentation they want. This is the answer that saves the most time later.
Some plans cover it but with an annual maximum that a year of treatment will exceed. Worth knowing before month eight.
A verbal yes from a call centre is not something you can hold anyone to. Ask for written confirmation.
If not covered
Public coverage is not a blanket yes or no. As of October 2026, the temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge provides access to selected medicines for certain eligible beneficiaries with Part D coverage. It operates separately from ordinary Part D drug coverage and has its own requirements. Other approved uses can follow different coverage pathways. For example, the Ozempic prescription guide describes indications distinct from weight management. Florida Medicaid separately uses its preferred drug list and authorization criteria; ask the plan about the exact prescription and indication.
If your prescription is not covered, ask the provider about medically appropriate options before comparing cash quotes. The weight loss medication pricing page explains what a quote should identify, while weight loss program fees helps separate ongoing care charges. Manufacturer offers have their own conditions and may exclude some insurance categories. Bring affordability into a personalized weight loss plan discussion early. Do not assume a savings offer changes your insurance benefit or that a cash payment will count toward your plan's spending limits.

Common questions
What to ask when an online list, a phone answer and a pharmacy price do not agree.
Told me plainly that the public plan would not fund it before I got my hopes up. Then helped me check the workplace plan, which did.
Found out about the cap in month one rather than month nine. Changed how I budgeted the second half of the year.
Not covered at all. We picked the option I could sustain rather than the one with the better trial numbers, and that was the right call.
Asked whether they could write it as a diabetes prescription for coverage. Got a clear no and a proper explanation why.

Public health insurance will not fund it for weight management, but your private plan might. Three questions to your insurer settle it before you commit to anything.
